Five Sunday Games for Season 2017

FIVE feature Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division games will be played as standalone Sunday fixtures in 2017.

With the full 2017 Essendon District Football League fixture set to be rolled out in coming days, the League will be showcasing all 10 Premier Division teams in key games across the entire season.

These Sunday match-ups, which will pit some of the division’s biggest rivals head-to-head, will be:

Round 1:  Essendon Doutta Stars v Keilor (April 2)

A fierce rivalry game that may have some added spice to it if Dustin Fletcher lines up for Douttas in front of a packed Nipper Jordan crowd. EDFL star power will be all over one of the League’s more spectator-friendly grounds.

Round 6: Avondale Heights v Maribyrnong Park (May 21)

Two local rivals with a combined total margin of six points splitting their two meetings (both won by Marby) in 2016, including a mid-April early season classic in Round 3 decided by a Shaun Wyatt goal on the final siren. CLICK HERE to watch Wyatt’s buzzer-beater.

Round 8: Craigieburn v Greenvale (June 4)

These two northern neighbours haven’t clashed since Round 16, 2012. That day, Angelo Lekkas was playing for the Eagles and three of Greenvale’s best players were Eric Kuret, Travis Jorgensen and Paul Lenne.

Round 10: Pascoe Vale v West Coburg (June 25)

There’s always that little bit more on the line when these two Moreland-based clubs face off. In Round 16 these two engaged in a 39-goal shoot-out with the Panthers eventually getting up by 49 points. Jacob Polizzi snagged seven and Ben Warren kicked five that day.

Round 16: Aberfeldie v Strathmore (August 13)

Those that were at Windy Hill on a pleasant September Saturday a little more than two years ago will appreciate the magnitude of this match-up whenever it occurs. It has the potential to be a monster clash if both are in finals contention by Round 16. CLICK HERE for highlights of the 2014 Strathmore Community Premier Division Grand Final.
