Last night concluded the first year of the EDFL AFL 9s competition played at Keilor Park Synthetic Sports Fields. The competition commenced in middle of November and consisted of 5 teams, EDFL All Stars, Keilor Park Randoms, St Francis, The Pods and We Finished 9th Again.
St Francis and the Keilor Park Randoms competed in the first final to decide who would take 3rd and 4th place with St Francis running over the top in the second half winning 93 to 25.
The Keilor Park AFL 9s Grand Final consisted of The Pods who were undefeated until the last round and We Finished 9th Again. With only 10 points the difference at half time going the way of We Finished 9th Again this was sure to be an exciting second and final half of our AFL 9s competition. The young men from We Finished 9th Again stepped it up a notch in the second half and outscored The Pods with a final score of 68 to 39. Congratulations to We Finished 9th Again!
Everyone at the Essendon District Football League would like to congratulate all players for their enthusiasm and keenness in making the competition enjoyable for all competitors. We hope that everyone got out what they hoped that they would whether it was just to have fun, have a kick around or to boost their fitness levels.
The EDFL would also like to thank Brimbank City Council for allowing the competition to be played on an amazing surface at the Keilor Park Synthetic Sports Fields.
AFL 9s will be run again at the end of this year and we hope that many more teams enter in both men’s and mixed competitions to expand this growing form of the game.
